BACKGROUND
Kristin Vellandi is a premier grassroots specialist - launching California Gubernatorial Candidate Meg Whitman's Women's Coalition "MEGaWomen" with over 10,000 members and then serving as Coalitions Director for US Senate Republican Nominee Carly Fiorina. With over 20 dynamic Coalitions and over 11,000 volunteers and coalition members, Carly Fiorina's campaign included a real-life grassroots movement that resonates today -- with volunteer leaders STILL dedicated to the cause.
Formerly of Public Strategies, Inc., Vellandi organized and implemented a campaign in support of open access to the cable network on behalf of a major telecommunications client. Working with various media outlets, allies and coalition members, Vellandi helped to gain support of open access in cities across Southern California, including
Los Angeles.
Vellandi has worked with a number of electric utility clients, helping to ensure they successfully navigate the choppy waters of deregulation versus re-regulation of the State’s electric utility industry.
Vellandi also managed the day-to-day campaign that ultimately achieved approval of a $1.2 billion bond for the LA Community College District (LACCD).
Until 1999, Vellandi was Communications Deputy for Los Angeles City Councilmember Laura Chick. While there, she worked to communicate the vision of a fiscally sound City for the Councilmember and lay the groundwork for a citywide campaign as the Councilmember prepared to run for City Controller. (She won that office in 2000.)
Before serving the Councilmember, Vellandi worked as Senior Associate with Burson-Marsteller in both its Sacramento and
Los Angeles offices. Vellandi launched her career in politics and communications working as a fundraiser on behalf of a number of statewide and local candidates.
She is a graduate of the
University of
California at
Irvine with a B.A. in English and a minor in Political Science.
